Morchella bordello

Quick rundown of life here:

1. I have pitchfork-elbow from helping plant 100 tomato plants and mulching a bunch of hay on the girls' farm last night. I can barely bend my left arm. Of course, I'm not using it for much else so no worries!

2. My strai friend A has a bday tomorrow and so we had pizza and beer tonight. She calls it celebrating her bday season. I say fine.

3. It has been rainy and cold here which is weird for May - I've found 6 spike morel mushrooms growing in my own front yard. They smell like a locker room and I am no fan, but have picked them for my friends. This weekend promises to be in the 80s and sunny so woo to the hoo.

4. I was in a series of meetings from 930am to 415pm today. I literally had time to use the restroom once. This is no way to live!

5. The dogs have been appreciating their country life. And by country, I mean grass and things that normal animals take for granted. It is like they have reclaimed their country dog selves and are rolling all over stuff, smelling actual things that occur in nature, and basically living life. I think they also do not miss all of the concrete and bullshit from out east. I like them like this.

6. I found my glasses by the way. I had placed them in a 'safe place' out at the farm which of course was a window sill ledge far away from anyone/thing. I also took two naps on Sunday to recover and quite frankly am still tired. Oh age! Why must you vex me so?

7. Soon I will be househunting for reals (as they say). In other words, I am looking forward to home ownership and believe that by the early/mid summer, I will have my own crib. Aww ya, MTV cribs KS style. When this event occurs, there will be pictures and stories of parties and cookouts and various/sundry home-related topics the likes of which this blog has never seen. Soon I will unpack all of those tools I have had packed up for 3.2 years and I will be cutting some fucking wood and nailing some shit left/right. Holla.

8. Who else is excited about the new WNBA season? I am. Go Storm. That's all I have to say about that.

9. You know how Harry Potter has that scar on his forehead? I took a shower last night and this am, got ready for work etc etc sans hair washing and noticed that in the back of my head, I have this sorta jagged bald area that looks not unlike a lightning bolt. Now, I have a decent head of hair, so imagine my surprise at this situation. I'm going to have to do a back comb-over to cover that shit up. Aside: My favorite poet Mary Oliver admitted that she's currently reading the Harry Potter series. This is prob why I love her like a hurricane.

10. I leave you with a Chick Flick I took at the girls' farm a few weeks ago:

Perfect imperial distance

In honor of seeing my all time favorite poet, Mary Oliver, tonight.

The Sun - Mary Oliver

Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful

than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon

and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone--
and how it slides again

out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower

streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance--
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love--
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure

that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you

as you stand there,
empty-handed--
or have you too
turned from this world--

or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?

Bringing on the weather

Yes Virginia, I do have a blog that I've been too busy to update. Rest assured that will happen more often (it is hoped). I will say that since I last posted, I almost ran off to marry a 60 year old cowboy who works for the local extension office, I helped plant 75lbs of potatoes, helped build a chicken roost in the coop, and more or less have been non-stop happy/content/midwestern 24/7. Life is good.

ps. I have been trying to remember what it felt like when I lived in DC a mere two months ago, just to compare/contrast. I honestly feel like that was another country and I was another person. Since I've been here, I haven't looked back hardly at all. A story here or there about the traffic, the life, the work. I'm here now, living a life again, and it's weird to think that a place can have such a hold on you and make you happy, like flipping a switch, like opening a door, like seeing every blade of soft green grass with a new pair of glasses. That's what it feels like.
