doppler

This is what I miss, the rumble of spring that comes out of nowhere:

ps. Spoiler alert for BSG. Stop reading now! But I was reminded of one of my favorite photographs (in fact, my monitor background image) after watching the finale. I always thought it was kinda like what you'd find when no one was around to spoil it and there was enough space to wander:

Crossing fingers

Shhhh, don't scare it away...

I will be live-tweeting throughout the WINTER STORM WARNING! Oh you better believe it..

I ask for very little during the winter except an occasional snow situation, so I will be tiptoeing lightly today so as not to cause the system to push off to the east and bypass us completely. I am, as ever, cautiously optimistic.

Let's see, what else? I tweeted about making quite possibly the best fucking beef vegetable stew ever made last night. Upon having leftovers for lunch today, I have confirmed that statement. I'm not bragging, I'm just sayin' and what I am saying is this: Haters to the left, you don't even want to thrown down on my stew.

Other things:

1. Battlestar Galactica is killing me softly with Starbuck's song. Gah! That show, so good. Only three more episodes = tragedy.

2. I am almost finished with this this book. I've basically had this sitting on my bedside nightstand for like, oh, 4 years? As with most non-fictiony books, I like to read a little at a time etc etc which means I have multiple books going at once and it takes a long time to finish something, but I just discovered that I am almost done with this one. If you are into plate tectonics (like I am, hello), then you will most certainly enjoy this book. I like wrapping my head around the fact that the continental makeup of the earth has gone through at least 4 major migrations dating back as far as a billion years ago and that rocks and the elements within them are able to tell that story. What's even freakier is thinking about a time before continents were even able to form, when the earth was just a boiling mass of iron mantle and how oxygen played a major role in creating the elements and subsequent rocks, but also life. The end. Anyway, yes, it's a very good book if you're into that geek shit, which I am.

3. The work weeks have been long and I am closing in on being burned out by it all. Plus also the headaches have returned - I suspect the implants are starting to wear out and the robot brain is giving up the ghost. I turned down several social invitations this weekend because quite honestly, I just needed to tune in/turn off. Very much in need of a getaway to another country.

4. Hello, we are under a WINTER STORM WARNING, stock up supplies now!! This city will be shut down for DAYS (or until it hits 60 next weekend)!

faith

Holy frak. I have about 1.8 million things on my mind (which is the price tag of a proposal I have been putting together) and am trying to pack for a two week trip (which is stress/salvation rolled into one) when I simply had to take a time out and let my head go somewhere else. I just finished watching the latest Battlestar Galactica episode Faith and hot holy hell. This show is killing me...man. My love for tortured prophet-heroes knows no bounds. It's also a testament to the level of stress I'm under that it also managed to wrest a moist eye from me as well. Man.

Anyway, I need to get my shit together tonight and finish some of those 1.8 million things and attempt to remember everything I need and somehow make my way to the airport tomorrow morning and land in SF and then drive up north of there and presumably be in a hotel room in California tomorrow night with enough time to re-read a 100pg proposal and prepare for a 1.5 day meeting where I negotiate the impossible and then pick up my Canadian and forget about everything else for awhile.

The question is: Can this be done without completely losing my mind? The answer = Try Again Later. Thank you Magic 8 Ball, may I have another?

half a dozen of the other

Well it's nice to have some days off in this new place, let me tell you. I've done a few unpacking things, putting my desk together for what feels like the millionth time, doing laundry, grocery etc. But honesty? I have been doing pretty much nothing but relaxing and napping and breathing and not thinking and not talking to anyone. It's been fantastic. Very much needed.

And so, on this perfect day where it's raining and stormy and dark and cool, I'm kicked back and catching up on a little bit of this:

Mmmm, Starbuck, it's been too long. You can watch full episodes here. Yay for Sundays!

accoutrements of democracy

To be honest, all this boring talk of work and travel and whatever else I write about is getting to me. Metro this, DC that. No one really cares, right? Instead, for just one damn post, I am going to talk about sex because this is America and we do that here. I talk all the time about my friend A and her sex life, but what about me and my needs? Seriously. I feel like I've let my friends from Iran down by not focusing on what's really important in this crazy fucked up world. Namely: nookie.

I'm a big fan, first off. Let's get that out of the way. Big fan, even bigger advocate, and frankly, an enthusiastic practioner. There are very few things I dislike about it. As long as it doesn't involve children, animals, snuff films, or the use of bodily waste products, I pretty much give a thumbs up. Some things do fall under the category of whatever-floats-your-boat-but-I'll-sit-this-ride-out-thanks such as things that scare me/not in a good way, furries, and pretending to be a baby who needs diapered. I'm also not so much into sticking a bunch of pins or needles in my/anyone else's body and I can't say I'd be up for trying to break any world records involving length/girth/quantity. That's just me.

So what floats my boat? I have made a handy list and I heartily recommend you at home make your own so that you can create your own consciousness raising moments on your next trip to Home Depot or the grocery store. Here are things or situations or personality types or physical attributes or whatnot that turn/turned me on in some way/shape/form and that have led to, would lead to, might be involved in some aspect of, or could be totally unrelated to sex with me.

ps. This is list not exhaustive and is subject to change. Also I am not currently drunk or drinking (despite my slow descent into alcoholism thanks to my anon lurker, hi!). No, I don't know what got into me. Maybe I'm just trying to spread a little democracy to Iran before we invade them too. Bring a little nippy fucky into their lives before its too late.

Enough talk/more action, in no particular order/rhyme/reason or related to any one person/place/thing, that which floats my boat:

1. I love power dynamics in bed and out of bed. Dominant/submissive, top/bottom, control/vulnerability, strength/weakness. The more subtle the cues, the better. I'm no fan of in your face theatrics or stereotypical power scenes. That stuff is too affected, too easy, too obvious. I want you or me to know who's in charge by the way your body moves or doesn't, by the way a word is said or how silence is used, or by what the look in your eyes. Throw in liberal use of the words please and thank you, please. Thanks.

2. Talking before/during/after sex. See above but also include descriptions of actions taken or to be taken, reactions to events, feelings regarding actions or events, and a soft endearment thrown in to throw things off. And be desperate when saying it or be demanding or coaxing or encouraging or out of control. Also words like fuck and god are never wrong. Also lots of other words that would be banned in Iran and possibly Iowa.

3. Accoutrements. I am someone who loves her tools, her camping gear, and her cookware. To me this is a no brainer. I am all about the functionality and feng shui. Use it or lose it.

4. Girls with guns. Sorry, it's a fetish, can't help it. Love it. NRA can suck it, but give that girl a gun. And hello, this pix of Starbuck? So many things right with that. (Win, here's a secret: this would also totally fall under #3 for me, write that story and we're gold).

5. This

6. Having sex or sex-like activities in public places that goes unnoticed by the public. I don't have any fantasies about being seen or being caught, I just really like the idea of having to hide what's going on while acting like nothing is happening when something is totally happening and all kinds of things are going on.

7. Fine, I like lacy silky undergarments, is that a crime?

8. Kneeling. Um

9. Hands in hair pushing someone's head down or being pushed down. Umm.

10. I wouldn't mind another threesome or more given the right mix of people. Ummm.

11. Scott Speedman, Jake G, Tony Gonzalez, and young John Cusack = boys I'd totally do.

12. Leaving visible marks on skin, perferably the back of the neck or the softest part of you. Wherever you choose.

13. I am thinking that really this is just kind of the tip of the iceberg and I am leaving out all kinds of other things that are more private even though posting this is probably a little too public for my normal preference for privacy but you know, there's way more to life than riding the damn Metro and going to work every day and guess what people generally like having sex me included and if you don't that's ok too but my point is here you go a post that I wouldn't normally write even though if you knew me, you'd know I have no problems discussing and/or having sex and hello, it's my favorite vice so why not sing its praises I say.

Can I get an Amen?

BSG = wee!

On a completely unrelated note, we did manage to watch every single BSG episode from the last two seasons and are now caught up. The only problem is that we can no longer remember what's happening in S3..which starts up again this Sun. Yay! And this is what I'm talking about. Hot Starbuck action..

And I so want this jacket:

Gotta fix my weave and holla!

A couple of things in no particular order:

It was 60 degrees here yesterday. Today it is 11 and sleeting/snowing/icing. Fire tonight!

The Agent has misplaced the combination to our safe sometime around our last move. As you know, she is a stickler for safety and such. If I weren't living here, she'd have a gun secreted away in every room for easy access to guard against intruders. Anyway, we keep our impt paps in the safe and I also put a few things I didn't want destroyed in a fire (remember when I briefly considered simply burning down the house when I realized how much stuff we had to move?). She has no idea where she put the combination and (unusual for me) I apparently never bothered to write it down somewhere. She did not take the lock picking and safe busting course so we are up shit creek for awhile until it turns up. Hopefully, I won't need my birth certificate anytime soon.

ETA (1/16): Combination located! You can now rest easy knowing our important papers and my mom's handcrafted Christmas ornament are safe and accessible. Carry on!

I had a much needed chiropractic adjustment this afternoon..a two week long headache convinced me that it was my neck out of whack so there was adjusting and cracking. It was heaven.

While I was out/about, I of course stopped and got a double mocha and also decided to rent yet another Battlestar Galactica disc. As you know, we have been slowly plodding our way through the past two seasons and right now, we are on Season 2.5, Disc 2. As god is my witness, we will make it through Season 2 before we move, and hopefully, before 3.5 starts! This is why I am reluctant to get involved in too many shows, the commitment is too great. All I have to say is that if the rumors going on about my beloved Starbuck are true, I shall be mightily disappointed. If I watched 3 seasons and lost my object d'lust, I will kick some frakking ass. I do not kid about that. Aside: The blooper video on that link is HI-fucking-larious! I laughed and laughed..

Apropos of nothing, but Jesus H. Christ, how can people actually pay attention to anything Giada De Laurentiis cooks with that kind of cleavage going on? You know I love my Food Network peeps, but Giada is killing me with the decolletage. We've already established my appreciation for all things mammary, but lord, how can I learn Everyday Italian if I can't focus on the food?

Finally, The Agent has an appointment with my beloved Roxanne tomorrow morn. I'm going along for the ride to not only make my own appointment to see her (my hair has grown to ponytail length and is a little too wild for public consumption), but also to meet A for coffee while we wait for gf to get her hair did.

On that note, I will leave with words of wisdom from the great Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott:

What's up motherfuckers?
I need to know is V-A up in this bitch?
New York, St. Louis, Chicago, Philly, LA, Atlanta
I'm diggin' that
But how about the ladies that got a head full of fake weave or braids
Holla at ya peoples
Oh! C'mon

Ooh baby let me fix my weave
Touch me up and let me fix my weave
You could pick me up about a quarter to 3
Before I walk in the club I gotta fix my weave
(Oh) Baby fix my weave
Baby baby let me fix my weave
On the highway I do above 90
(woo-woo) pull me over get the fake ID

I met a guy named Tommy
Very charming
He was on me like cheese be on macaroni
His game real tight making me so horny
Fine enough for us to fuck and be his baby mommy
You really don't know me
So I moves it slowly
Brush up and let him hold me
Let me spit some baloney
Baby you could call me
If you go down on me
But you got to back up off me
Wearing cubic zirconia
I told him, "Baby let me fix my weave
I got a hair out of place and use a fake ID."
Pepe LePew voulez vous ooh oui
You want to misdemeanor me
You gotta spend more G's (ohhwee)

Ooh baby let me fix my weave
Touch me up and let me fix my weave
You could pick me up about a quarter to 3
Before I walk in the club I gotta fix my weave
(Oohwee) Baby fix my weave
Baby baby let me fix my weave
On the highway I do above 90
(woo-woo) pull me over get the fake ID

I used to date a guy named Chris
Sloppy with his kiss
But he was good with his tongue
I called him Mr. Young One
Mr. Young One had a big ding-dong
Balls the size of ping-pong
I had him souped like won-ton
I put the beat on
And on my ass he skeet on
I put the heat on young gun
Fresh meat he season
Yes, yes we used to creep down the beach
He was insane like Rick James
And with a mask he's Superfreak
I told him, "Gimme cash to fix my weave
And I don't want no excuses 'bout your baby mommy
'cause your child support money don't fix my weave
and you know nigga please me no fuck for free."

To the heavy weave cities
Miami, Jersey, D.C., the Carolinas, Detroit, Louisville, Ohio, to all the
projects
To the beauty salons, and curling irons stitching in that hair
Okay, oohwee yeah fix your weave
Straight up like a perm you heard

Shhh

(Do not tell anyone, but I had a rather..interesting..dream about Sue Bird last night. My love for her is no secret, but when The Agent was getting up, I was like, oh man, I just was having the greatest dream about...um, basketball. It's ok though, she's on my List* so no foul. Ha!?)

*Remember: Every couple is allowed a List containing 3 celebrity people which, if ever given the chance, they are allowed to sleep with sans relationship repercussion. They discuss this in Chapter 25. Mine currently includes the aforementioned Bird, Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace (the viper pilot, not the actress), and Maura Tierney. I haven't revisited The Agent's list with her lately so I'll post hers when I know.

ETA: Mrs V, is this what you're suggesting:

Maura Tierney +

Starbuck =

Sue Bird?

Hmmm, what would my therapist say about that? Oh right, she'd say I like the hotties, aww yeah!

So say we all

Ok, so The Agent and I finally got through the first season of Battlestar Galactica this past weekend. We ended up renting it and then doing some marathon sessions. We're hooked for sure. I'm still pissed that we only discovered it this season. I don't watch too many shows with any regularity any more so right now it's just this and South of Nowhere which is handy since they're both on Fri night. I'm not always home, but I try. Anyway, whatever, just babbling.

Minor point: We both can't stand Baltar and his constant ego-driven dick. We also don't care much for the blond chick in any of her incarnations. We are tired of watching them have sex and wish for it to stop.

Mid-major point: Finally Lucy is doing quality TV and not stupid vampire bats or whateverthefuck movie of the week shit she was doing. How about scoring ROC for some guest episodes? Ohh..they could totally tie in an Uber situation with Evil Cylon Xena and Undercover Human Spy Gabrielle who totally infiltrates to the inner Cylon circle and redeems 3. Subplot of Gabrielle having to sex her way through every D'anna model until she found the primary Xena model. I'd even be satisfied with someone fanfic-ing that. It'd be a perfect cross-over.

Main point: The Agent is in love with Roslin and I'm in lust with Starbuck. I'm sure this says something about our relationship.

ps. I switched over to the new betablogger and now am obsessed over post tags. I'm a little scared to see how many posts over the past years will be tagged with stuff like "strippers/cocaine" or "boring posts about what I had for dinner". I figure I'll tire of tagging before I actually get through them all anyway. Great, now I'm going to have to re-tag this as "dumb shit no one cares about".

ETA: Yeah, I only made it through 50 before I got bored for the night.
