Apparently, one of the state mottos for Maryland is "I'm crabby for Maryland!" and it is possible to purchase many items with this upon it. Do not think I won't be getting a crabby thong and a pair of crabby boxers to give as gifts for my friends. Yes, that is the kind of punny shit I live for!
So our house-hunting trip was a success and we found a rental house that didn't break the bank. I am going to have to check myself b/c if I'm not careful, I will be over-using the phrase "Mon dieu! Look how much this costs!" Take for example, beef. I use this as my cost-of-living barometer. The minute I'm in a grocery store in another state, I'm checking out the price for an lb of ground beef and making my comparison. FYI, cost of beef in Maryland = $3.90, cost of beef in Kansas = $2.87. I will not go into the price of Diet Pepsi because it will make me cry. I don't want to be a big old Hoosier while I'm out there and start kvetching like a grandma about the prices but I fear I will not be able to stifle my inner Hoosier. If only my mom were still alive, she's the only one who would have appreciated me calling her up to tell her about grocery prices. We had whole long distance phone conversations about what we bought at the grocery store and what deals we got. I miss that. She would be shocked by the prices at the Giant store in Beltsville, Maryland for sure.
So the dogs missed us mightily. Neither one ate very much or slept while they were in the kennel and now the baby dog has gas like no one's business today. I love that dog, but wow, her belly is upset. They have been sleeping pretty much since I picked them up. Poor things.
So after getting situated yesterday, naturally I called up
A and naturally we went out for drinks. Why was it a good idea to have shots of Herradurra Silver? And red wine? And white wine? And beer? I do not even know. I blame her, check out the email she sent me while I was in DC:
i have decided that i will drink whenever you want these last few weeks, even if it kills me. do you even see what i sacrifice for you? oh, and you had better be back for my hair cut next week or whenever it is. we'll have to drink after that for sure. WHY are you even moving? you'd better get ready and be prepared to be hung over every day. that's all i have to say to you. goodbye.
p.s. the rash is getting better, so stop bothering me about it every second of every day.
Good times, good times.
ps. Check out the iMix my buddy isawsparks made up over there to the right in my iMix links, some good shit going on in that one so check it out! --------->

You think Maryland is bad, come to California. My inner Hoosier cries at the price of chicken breast. Big, jagged sobs. On the plus side, vegetables are dirt cheap. But then, as a Hoosier, I find that hard to appreciate.
I just now went to the grocery store. Wanna know what I got? OK, I'll tell you. pepperidge farm cookies (5.99), wheat bread (3.39), low-fat bologna (2.99), english muffins (2.99), munster cheese (3.99), two stonyfield farm yogurts (1.98), portabello mushrooms (4.59), lettuce (2.42), lowfat eggos (3.49), not-butter (2.69), ore ida frozen french fries (3.99), frozen berries (4.69), gardenburgers (4.59). Grand total: 47.79.
When we went up north and stopped at a gas station and I got snacks and the woman was like "3.47" I was like 'WHAT?!!!! THAT'S IT??!!! did you get this york peppermint patty?" I mean, I'm regularly used to paying 1.75 for a bottled water.
Miss Snarker: Hey, congrats on your AE gig! You must share access to any hotties with me, your fellow Hoosier! Midwestern Solidarite'!
Girl Who Wins: If we're to be Grocery Buddies, I must be able to call you while I am in the store itself to share sale prices and discuss merits/demerits of Fuji vs Braeburn apples. Send digits via myspace/facebook/whatevs ASAP!
ps. The reason prices are so high on the east/west coast is because you all don't have five extra acres to devote to a Super Walmart to help drive down prices (and exploit workers at the same time!)
